JOUR•Ed Collaborative, an interactive directory developed by the California Press Foundation in partnership with the California State University, Northridge Journalism Department, serves as a modern interface between the profession and journalism education. By providing an easily accessible, yet comprehensive repository of statewide resources, the Journalism Education Collaborative streamlines the search for relevant programs, publications and research data to improve educational and industry opportunities for journalism professionals and future journalists alike.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Journalism Education Collaborative strives to strengthen the pipeline from education to industry by building a collective network of current and future media makers. We work to foster diversity and inclusion from the classroom to the newsroom.

Linda Bowen

Project Director & Founder

Linda Bowen co-created the Journalism Education Collaborative project in partnership with the California Press Foundation-funded “State of Journalism Education.” Immediate past Journalism Department chair (2012-2022) and longtime professor at California State University, Northridge, Bowen’s academic career has focused on teaching journalism skills, integrating news literacy concepts and fostering civic engagement through community and K-12 projects. Bowen, who spent 25 years as a reporter, editor and newsroom manager in several California newsrooms, is on the California Press Foundation’s Board of Directors. Previously, she served as president of the Greater Los Angeles chapter, Society of Professional Journalists.

Darleen Principe

Community Manager

Darleen Principe is the student media adviser and chair of the journalism department at Santa Barbara City College. She also serves on the California Press Foundation Board of Directors. Before becoming an educator, Principe was a staff writer, then editor for the Acorn Newspapers, a family of five community publications covering Ventura County and the Conejo Valley. She holds a bachelor’s in journalism and master’s in mass communication from California State University, Northridge, as well as a master’s in visual culture from the University of Westminster in London, England. In her free time, she enjoys baking, especially sourdough bread. 

Jody Holcomb

Web Coordinator

Jody Holcomb is the General Manager of the Daily Sundial at California State University Northridge, where she works with students on the visual aspects of storytelling. She is also an alumna of CSUN’s Art program with a BA in Graphic Design. When not in the newsroom, she enjoys painting and printmaking.

Danielle McKinney

Outreach Coordinator

Danielle McKinney is a multifaceted professional communicator providing freelance digital media management, content creation and writing services. She helps non-profits and individuals connect with audiences, grow membership, increase their online presence, fundraise and more. Named in May 2023 as the inaugural Tim Crews Fellow by the California Press Foundation, McKinney will develop new resources and programs for journalism educators and students throughout California. She is an alumna of California State University, Sacramento with a BA in Journalism. In her free time, she enjoys exercising and spending time with friends.
