Beginning in 2026, the Champion of Journalism Education Award will be administered through the Journalism Education Collaborative (JOUR•Ed), the California Press Foundation’s statewide collaborative for journalism educators and students. This transition ensures that recognition of teaching excellence is fully integrated into the educator community. The awards will be presented at the California Press Foundation’s annual journalism symposium later this year.
This award is open to both educators and non-educators who have made a lasting impact on journalism education in their community or across California. This could include teaching, mentoring, financial or logistical support, partnership programs or other forms of advocacy. Nominees should have contributed to opportunities for student journalists or educators which could include expanding access to internships, workshops, scholarships, collaborations, etc.
Nomination deadline: May 30, 2026
